Bee-Eater takes an early sunbath!
I still remember my time in the Swiss Army, when the sergeant woke us recruits with his whistle when it was still dark outside. With sleepy eyes we padded in a row into the washroom and put our heads under cold water to wake up.
Currently, in the eastern Caprivi Strip, in Namibia, we are woken up before sunrise too. But not by a disgruntled sergeant, but with a wonderful concert of birds. It begins gracefully and quietly and increases to a crescendo within a quarter of an hour. We then both lie awake on our sleeping bags and listen to the concert of the feathered friends. They sing so beautifully that we forgive them if they peck out the fruit in the muesli for us an hour later when we are sitting at the breakfast table. Everything has its price!
PS. Unfortunately, we cannot load the smartphone’s audio track as a link on this page. But maybe Brigitta will find a solution later …
