AS GUEST AT ABERFOYLE LODGE

View from our room!

Last year our trip to Aberfoyle Lodge ended at the entrance gate. We wanted to take a look at the lodge and have some tea there. However, it was made clear to us that day tourists were not welcome. So, we turned around. On the way back we decided to try again next year, i.e. 2024 – this time with a reservation.

We do not make reservations as we often need to change our itinerary. But here it was essential if we wanted to be sure of having a room. So, we reserved three nights from October 21st – 24th, 2024. The drive to the lodge is already a pleasure. The road winds from the Hunda Valley to almost 1,000 meters above sea level. It goes past abandoned coffee plantations, then along tea plantations, some of which now have to give way to macadamia nut trees because you can make more money with them. Everything around is green and the red earth is fertile!

Two hours after leaving camp on the Pungwe River, we arrived at the lodge and were warmly greeted. We moved into our room, called Fish Eagle, which has a fantastic view of the golf course, tea bushes and a beautiful forest. We look forward to golfing, hiking in the surrounding forest and bird watching. (Zimbabwe and particularly this area of the Eastern Highlands are the ultimate birding areas!)
