VISITING A KWEKERY

A highlight to visit!

What is a «Kwekery» is what most people will think reading this word. Here is the solution to the puzzle: Kwekery is Afrikaans and means nursery. And one, the largest Kokerboom nursery of South Africa, was on our way south.

In the Iwanowski travel guide we read that it is located in Vanrhynsdorp. And this town was along our route. So, let’s go! After a good two hours of driving on the N7, a good asphalt road, we arrived in Vanrhynsdorp. As always, we first filled the tanks, because it’s better to be safe than sorry. Suddenly there is a strike or a holiday. Or the diesel truck arrives late. Afterwards we did a few quick purchases before we made our way to the Kwekery.

From a distance we saw Kokerbooms standing in a row. We drove through a large gate into the parking lot. For the next hour we marveled at all the succulents and plants for sale here. Unfortunately, we couldn’t pack a Kokerboom – it would be a bit too big. But Brigitta bought a selection of succulents that she then wants to plant in our garden in Swakopmund. We hope the plants survive the trip back well!
