Driving and flying Red Bulls!
After quenching our thirst at Stiegl’s and learning more about their beer, we still had half a day to discover what Salzburg has to offer. Take Hangar 7, for example. Although it is close to Salzburg Airport, it has very little to do with a «aircraft garage». Hangar 7 is a futuristic, multifunctional building that is a museum, art gallery, event venue, restaurant and entertainment venue all in one.
In the hangar (almost) everything revolves around flying and Formula 1 racing cars. Both the planes and the cars wear the typical Red Bull colors. Dietrich (Didi) Mateschitz, licensee of this energy drink, who thus became a billionaire and the richest Austrian – he died in October 2022, at the age of 78 – has realized a dream here and created a unique collection of racing cars and airplanes. Since it opened in 2003, Hangar 7 has become a Mecca for fans of airplanes and motorsport, and is also an architectural highlight in Salzburg.
PS. Neither Brigitta nor I have ever drunk Red Bull – we prefer wine and beer.
