I don’t know why, but the fact is that we don’t own a single Johnny Cash CD. And yet we heard his music. For example, in the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee, where we stopped on our «Bucket List Tour» on June 1, 2019. Johnny Cash is of course present in this Hall of Fame; and as a visitor you can’t avoid hearing his songs.
The last time we heard the typical Johnny Cash sound was on December 20, 2023, in Swakopmund, when we went to the «Tribute to Johnny Cash» concert. We didn’t regret a minute of that evening. The singer, Riaan Smit, a Namibian musician and co-founder of the South African band Crimson House, came along as Man in Black. The nickname of Johnny Cash, who usually appeared dressed all in black. His double did the same that evening. If you closed your eyes and just listened to the lyrics, you would have thought you were at a Johnny Cash concert.
A rather older audience was present. Most came, as suggested in the invitation, in black jeans and a black shirt. And some even with a tie! (This is still missing from my wardrobe in Swakopmund!) The atmosphere was excellent, thanks to the good guitar playing and singing of the Johnny Cash double. The whole room sang along to the last song.
