A long way up to the alp!
Every year more than a million ravers take part in the street parade in Zurich. The louder the music, the more eye-catching the make-up and the costume, the more the visitors enjoy this event. During my time in Zurich, I was neither at the Böög burning nor at the street parade. One occasion was too snobbish and the other was too noisy for me. I was always amazed toI see the visitors closely packed and drinking warm beer from paper cups! Well, to each his own…
A completely different type of street parade takes place in the Bernese Oberland. When the alpine pastures are free of snow, the cowherds set off with their animals to the alp. The roar of the large cowbells that the lead cows carry can be heard from afar. The cows and their companions walk leisurely along the main road through Kandersteg. On the left and right of the street there are residents and tourists who don’t want to miss this spectacle – neither do we!
