SO BEAUTIFUL!

A Blust of Color!

It rarely rains in Swakopmund; but every now and then a few drops fall from the sky. Just like a few days ago, when we were amazed to find in the morning that the balcony floor was actually wet. And this time it wasn’t the fallout from the fog, as can be the case. This damp fog is essential for the survival of the sparse plants that grow in the Namib Desert. And the animals whose home is this desert are also dependent on it. They have adapted to the desert climate and get by with a minimum of liquid. But they also need water – albeit very little!

We’re always amazed at how quickly the cacti bloom after it’s rained. As we took a morning stroll through Rossmund Village and across the golf course last Sunday morning, we saw flowers of all colors and shapes. Like this one! Isn’t that just beautiful?

PS. After just a few days, the flowers drop their heads and fall off. New ones will show up after the next rainfall.
