
Potjiekos: Typical dish of Southern Africa
There are people who live in rented apartments. Others live in a house. And still others live on an estate. For example, at Gut Richthofen, which could just as easily be somewhere in Germany. We were able to tour the estate in detail and were amazed that there was even a knight’s hall for festive occasions.
Friends of ours have been living at Gut Richthofen near Swakopmund for many years when they are in Namibia for six months. Yesterday we and our Swiss friends were invited to an oxtail dinner. We were all looking forward to this afternoon, as we knew that drinking wasn’t neglected by Peter and Gisela. And that’s the way it was…
But back to the oxtail: Peter, a master chef, had it simmering in a pot on the fire for hours. The meat fell off the bone and the sauce that came with the potato stock (Swiss German for mashed potatoes) was delicious. We ate like God in France and drank good wine. It was an unforgettable afternoon with good friends and lots and lots of laughter…
