The cheetah is a carnivore found mainly in Africa that belongs to the cat family. The cheetahs, which are highly specialized in their hunting behavior, are the fastest land animals in the world due to their special physique – speeds of up to 93 km/h have been measured while hunting through vegetation. A cheetah reaches a head-body length of 150 cm, plus 70 cm tail. The shoulder height is 80 cm. Despite its stately size, it only weighs 60 kg.
Cheetahs are pure savannah and steppe animals. They prefer areas with tall, cover-providing grass and hills as lookout points, but few trees and shrubs, since they cannot exploit their speed there. In semi-desert, on the other hand, cheetahs do well if they find enough prey.
Cheetahs are diurnal animals. As a result, they largely avoid encounters with the more nocturnal lions, leopards and hyenas, which can easily challenge them for their prey and also pose a great danger to their offspring. (Source: Wikipedia)
