GOLFING, WINING AND DINING

Still a long way to the hole!

During our travels from 2006-2013 we didn’t stay in a hotel often! On my 66th birthday, on April 14, 2011, we stayed at the Sheraton Hotel in Lahore and treated ourselves to a few luxurious days and nights there. (I will never forget that I was offered a Black Forest cake – or what the Pakistanis call it!) On Brigitta’s 47th birthday, on November 10th, 2010, we were standing in a hotel parking lot in Harar, Ethiopia. (The hotel and restaurant were closed so Brigitta prepared us a raclette – I will never forget that!)

We will also have fond memories of the days on the Kleine Zalze. Here we were not only able to enjoy the excellent cuisine, but we also had the opportunity for an extensive wine tasting. (Is it any wonder that there have been a few magnum bottles in Mahangu’s cellar ever since!)

The best thing, however, was that we were able to play golf here again. If we want to reduce our handicap from currently 54 (!), then we should play regularly. The last time we did this was at the Troutbeck Resort Golf Course, in Zimbabwe. We haven’t gotten much better since then. On both days – we only played 9 holes each – we lost five golf balls between us. They ended up in the water or in the tall grass; but not where they should actually be. But as the saying goes: a master has never fallen from heaven!

PS: If you want to know how beautifully the Kleine Zalze golf course is designed, take a look here.
