I didn’t play golf for a long time because I saw it as a sport for snobs and the well-heeled. (I still feel that way today when we are on sophisticated golf courses.) We only found access to playing golf since we started living on a golf course in Swakopmund, Namibia, in 2021. Here we are on the golf course three times a week, which we share with a few golfers but many springboks and Egyptian geese who stop over here. (A few years ago, an elephant even got lost on the golf course!)

During the five to six months that we are at home in Kandersteg, in Switzerland, we don’t want to completely forget how to play golf. Since there is a golf course in both Thun and Interlaken, we have the possibility. Both golf courses are not within walking distance as in Swakopmund – but can easily be reached in half an hour’s drive. Recently we made our first visit to the golf course in Interlaken – we already know the one in Thun.

We smiled when we saw the sign at the reception that pointed out the «correct tenue». It’s not like the golfers in Swakopmund play with flip-flops and swimming trunks. But they are dressed a lot more casual than the golfers in Switzerland. And with the contribution for a driving range season ticket in Interlaken, which costs CHF 350.–, we can play golf in Swakopmund for almost a year on the 18 hole golf course. But one thing has to be said: the location in both Thun and Interlaken is exceptionally beautiful!
