Don’t worry, that’s also the title of a German tearjerker, but I won’t give it to you today and here. No, it’s about a different white! It’s about snow!

How we wished in Namibia that we could trudge through the snow again when we returned to Switzerland. Since Kandersteg is at an altitude of 1,200 meters, this wish was not so far-fetched. However, when we arrived here a week ago, it looked more like spring. Chaffinches and blackbirds sang a happy song early in the morning. We could eat breakfast outside, in the restaurants, tables and chairs were placed in the sun and the first tourists could already be seen.

But that’s all different since this morning! When we looked out the window at 7 am, all we saw was white. It had snowed over four inches overnight. Before breakfast we put on good shoes and warm clothes and trudged along the Kander into the village. How nice to hear it crunching under our soles and to see snowflakes falling from the sky…

PS. The birds take no pleasure in the white splendor; but on the birdseed. Blackbirds, chaffinches, tits and redstarts meet at the aviary that Brigitta fixed on our terrace this morning…
