GREEN AND BLOOMING

A field of blooming Lilies!

We have seen a lot on our travels in terms of weather: snowstorms in Tajikistan, sandstorms in Morocco, floods and landslides in Nepal, tornadoes in the USA, a hurricane in Honduras and drought in Mongolia. We are now experiencing something in Namibia that only happens every ten years or so: copious rain that turns the country into green and blooming landscapes. Where else brown and ocher predominate, you can now see mainly green!

When we left Omaruru on February 1st, 2021 heading south to Windhoek, we were amazed how green the landscape is to the left and right of the road. Where dry bushes and grasses are usually to be seen, lush green grass now stood almost eight inches high. Most of the dams are full to the brim: like the Oanob dam near Rehoboth, to which we made a detour on the way south. The Namibians are happy. And we are happy with them!

PS. Again and again on today’s journey Brigitta asked me to stop to take pictures. Like this one!
