A SCENT OF SUNDAY

A masterpiece!

I don’t remember where I read it, but I read it recently. Namely, at least in German-speaking Switzerland, a braid-bread is part of breakfast on Sundays. But before you can eat it, you have to bake it. (You can buy good bread in Swakopmund, but people don’t know the braid here!)

I suggested to Brigitta that I take over the baking and thought that I could do it with the help of a cookbook. The ingredients thing was one thing. But the fact that I then used the whisk instead of the dough stirring rods wasn’t as good. What was also not good was that I tried to knead the dough with not enough flour. Soon both my hands were full of dough and I was somewhat helpless. If Brigitta hadn’t scraped it off with a scraper, I would have been fighting a losing battle.

With the kind help of Brigitta, who also braided the dough, there would have been none on the table this morning. It was only Saturday; but since we are going to the Namib Naukluft Park on Sunday to spend Christmas there, we already made a Sunday breakfast on Saturday. I will never forget the moment when I opened the oven and picked up «my» first self-made» braids.
