FIRST OF AUGUST: SWISS NATIONAL DAY

Show the Flag!

It has been a long, long time since we have been celebrating the Swiss National Day in Switzerland – in Kandersteg, where we are based since last year. We are happy to be able to spend this special day at home.

It has been twelve years since we celebrated Swiss National Day in Kathmandu, Nepal. At that time, we were invited by the Swiss embassy. I will never forget the pretty, female employees at the embassy, who wore a Swiss cross on their cheeks. And if I remember correctly, they also sang the Swiss national anthem with us back then.

But on our travels we experienced other national holidays: In the USA in 2008 we celebrated the 4th of July, Independence Day, together with the Americans. In Australia, on January 26, 2012, we celebrated Australian Day with the Aussies. In Tahiti we celebrated the Quatorze Juillet in 2020. In Mongolia we experienced the Naadam festival in 2013, which is also the national day. At this festival we saw something that is otherwise only seen in Switzerland: wrestlers - not in the sawdust but on the meadow...
