ONE MORE SHIPPING …

Mahangu: See you again in Walvis Bay!

If you ship the vehicle from one continent to another, there aren’t too many options. If you are lucky, there is a ferry like the one between Port Sudan and Jeddah, in Saudi Arabia. (On December 3rd, 2010 we went on board the «Maddawah», which usually has pilgrims on board.) Or a RoRo ship that also takes a few passengers on board. For example, the «Grande Amburgo» of the Grimaldi shipping company, with which we traveled from Hamburg to Montevideo in Uruguay for 34 days in 2017.

From Veracruz to Walvis Bay, in Namibia, we had the choice between a RoRo or a container transport. Our vehicle was built so that it fits in a 20 ’container. (At least when we put the roof box in the car interior and strap the second spare wheel onto the hood.) We did that today in Veracruz and drove Mahangu into an MSC container. (I was able to get out of the container better than before, because my belly is less girth!)

On September 21, 2020 – at least it is planned this way – the MSC Ilona will set sail with our container on board. Two months later the ship is supposed to arrive in Walvis Bay. Why does it take so long? See below…

PS. There are no direct connections between Veracruz and Namibia. The ship sails to Amsterdam via Lomé, in Togo. Then it sails south again following the coast of Africa to Walvis Bay. That’s how it works today in the «Christian Seafaring»!
