ONE NIGHT IN LEBANON

Beautiful Lake Clanwilliam

Lebanon? Did they change continents? No, we didn’t; but we stayed at the Lebanon Citrus Resort on November 16th, 2023. After failing to find space in The Baths, we looked for another place. We found it just a few kilometers away, at the Clanwilliam reservoir. There are campsites along the lake; one more beautiful than the other. Brigitta chose the most beautiful one for us. The lake was less than ten meters away; that was one thing. The other was that apart from two fishermen, no one was camping here. Once again, we had a place practically to ourselves. (The kind you see on brochures for campervans – except these «dream places» hardly exist in Switzerland anymore!)

Brigitta installed her hammock and dozed away the afternoon. With her was Orapa – it’s a male cat – who keeps her busy during the night. Since we’ve had him on board, we’ve been sleeping a lot less than before. Sleeping in is no longer an option. But all of that is outweighed by what we experience with the kitten. If we walk away from the car, he follows us. If we’re sitting in the car and he’s outside, he starts to meow. «Let me in! » that’s probably what it means. (I’m sure of that, even if I don’t know cat language!)

We planned to spend another night at the lake; but the rainy weather the next morning made us change our plans. We decided to drive part of the way to Springbok.

Speaking of Lebanon: I was there in 1965 when I wanted to drive around the Mediterranean with my friend and an old VW bus. We made it to the Red Sea; Then the bus gave up!
