Aberfolyle Lodge is known not only for its beautiful location amidst tea plantations, forest, streams and waterfalls but also for its 9-hole golf course. Since we knew this, Brigitta not only packed golf balls but also tees. (For non-golfers: You need this when teeing off to raise the golf ball so you can hit it better!)
On October 22nd, 2024, at 9 am., we started with our two caddies Mirius and Johannes. The course is less hilly than the one at Troutbeck Lodge but still so that we prefer to let the caddies carry the golf clubs. It was time for the first tee. I didn’t pay attention to the fact that it was the one with the furthest distance. I only noticed this when I made a good stroke – probably the furthest so far – but still not far enough to cross the stream. The yellow ball ended up in the water; and the caddies searched in vain for it. (We heard there were golfers who lost 36 balls!)
I then made the remaining tee shots with Brigitta from the red tees that are closer to the green, where you putt the balls. (I already talk and write like a smart golfer – but I’m far from that!) The golf course took us constantly up and down through tea plantations, along forests and watercourses. We finished it with grace, to the delight of our caddies, who didn’t have to search for more than two lost balls. However, they didn’t find them. It was an unforgettable game of golf and the two balls that are now lying in the green tea bushes will perhaps be found by the caddies at the next game…
