A DAY AT THE ZOO

Africa-Feeling!

If you return to Switzerland from Africa, sooner or later you will miss the animals that can be seen there. However, Etosha, Khaudum and other national parks in Namibia are too far away for a day visit. But there is also the Zurich ZOO!

And then there are Monika and Walter, who know the Zoo Zurich like the back of their hand. As a volunteer, Walter helps to bring the zoo closer to the many visitors. And Monika, his wife, supports him. They invited us to visit the Zoo on May 3, 2023. We were glad we had two knowledgeable guides to take us around the 60-acre zoo as it had been more than twenty years since our last visit.

One highlight followed the other on this tour, which took us through the Zoo for eight hours. The visit was interrupted by an excellent lunch at the restaurant Altes Klösterli. From there we watched the storks carrying nesting material in their beaks up the trees, where it was gratefully received by Mrs. Stork.

A highlight was the Lewa savannah. There zebras, rhinos, giraffes and antelopes frolic in harmony. And when we finally strolled through the Masoala hall, we felt like we did when we traveled through Madagascar for three weeks in November 2009…
