Die Wüste blüht!
On September 20th, 2024 we woke up to a clear blue sky. No fog like the day before. And just the right weather to continue our journey south.
In Springbok we did some shopping at Spar and filled the tanks before heading to the nearby Goegap Nature Reserve. Luckily, we did, because what we saw was simply wonderful. It started with a flower and succulent themed display that was brilliantly done. An absolute highlight, however, were the flowers, no, they were huge carpets of flowers that we saw here. We were blown away by the splendour of the flowers and couldn’t get enough of it.
Two hours later, on a pad that took us through the sea of flowers, we returned to the N7, which took us to Kamieskroon. This village is the starting point into Namaqualand NP, known for its endemic succulents and flowers. We made it to Skilpad gate but were told you couldn’t camp there. No exceptions; not even for Swiss! So, we turned around and drove back to Kamieskroon, where we found a place to stay overnight at a lodge. We went to sleep early because there was a cold easterly wind and were looking forward to the next day and the Namaqualand NP!
