TOURISM IS BUZZING!

Flag and country of Zimbabwe

Those were the days when in 2020/21 we were practically alone in Namibia. Back then, under the Covid regime, tourism was on the rocks. We had camps and Pads (roads) almost to ourselves. This has now changed significantly for the better – at least for those who rely on tourism. And there are quite a few in southern Africa…

As a tourist, however, you almost wish the Covid era was back a bit! It’s unbelievable what’s going on right now – and the summer holidays (in southern Africa during the Christmas period) haven’t even started yet. We had a first impression of what to expect when we realized that the flight from Doha to Windhoek was full to the last seat. And the main thing you could hear was German and Swiss German.

When we planned our tour through Namibia and Botswana and wanted to make reservations, we quickly realized that practically all the places in the national parks in Botswana were fully booked. But southern Africa is large; and so, we made a new plan: Instead of Botswana, we are now traveling to Zimbabwe, a country that impressed us on our first visit in 1994. And a destination that is avoided by many tourists because the supply of fuel is uncertain. But for something like this, in addition to our two ninety-liter tanks, we also have two additional 20-liter canisters. At the moment they are still hanging empty on the broadside of Mahangu; but before we enter Zimbabwe, we fill it up to the brim!
