B R R R R R R R – THIS IS COLD!

The daily infos!

In some of these posts it was already mentioned that the water temperature in Swakopmund is not such that one likes to get into the water. At least not if you are not used to it and are from Swakopmund by birth. We have been encouraged from various sides to try swimming at the pier near the lighthouse. But either the sky wasn’t blue enough for us, the wind was too strong or we had already other things in mind. We’ve always found a good excuse not to swim in the bay.

While we were the other day at a Scientific Society of Swakopmund talk on global warming, we had another chance to swim at the pier. But we also let this pass. A look at the board, which is shown here, did not make us want to swim. On top of all that, there was a cool wind! Nothing for us! Even though there were a few die-hards in the water, we didn’t feel like doing the same. Watching them from the bar, with a glass of cold Windhoek Lager in hand, was enough for us…

PS. That evening a group of dolphins appeared who seemed to be having fun with the swimmers. A good reason to turn up at the pier again. Maybe next time with the swimming trunks?
