BENGUELA COVE: ART AND WINE

We agree completely!

Kleinmond, where we stayed overnight on November 13th, 2023, was only a few kilometers away from the renowned Benguela Cove Winery. The name alone made me want to go there! We did that the next day; and we didn’t regret it!

The winery, which specializes in Cool Climate wines, is located just a few kilometers from Hermanus. We were amazed when we stood in front of the entrance to the winery – we couldn’t miss the sign that it was one of the best wineries in South Africa. We parked Mahangu next to classier cars and took action. No, not for the wine tasting, because at 10 a.m. it was a bit too early for that.

First, we took a look at the adjoining gallery, which exhibited some paintings by South African artists. We took half an hour and saw some pictures that we really liked. One was too big to take with us, measuring 105 x 120 cm. But another one, somewhat smaller, immediately caught our eyes. We didn’t think twice and had it packed up.

We then saved the expenses when buying wine. We left it at 2 magnum bottles, 3 bottles of rosé, 6 bottles of late harvest and 3 bottles of extra virgin olive oil. (Brigitta always thinks about our health!)
