The Martians are among us!
On October 16 we left Veracruz with destination Mexico City. Brigitta did the driving because the car rental company forbids drivers my age to sit behind the steering wheel. So, I had time to look out the window on the five-hour drive and was able to entertain Brigitta with reminiscences about our journey.
The Mexicans celebrated that day the Dia de la Independencia and so there was little traffic. Even around Mexico City, a city with around 9 million inhabitants, it was light and we were not sad about that. The airport was well signposted and after we had returned the car at the rental company, we were taken to the departure hall in a shuttle bus.
I thought I was meeting extraterrestrials when I saw a group of men standing at the check-in desk in plastic overalls and diving masks and face masks. Could it be Chinese – the ones who gave us all the virus crap?
PS. This «pandemic» also has its advantages for passengers: The KLM plane was only one third full and each passenger had a row of seats to sleep on!
