ON THE «STRADA ROMANTICA»

Driving a convertible is fun here!

On May 28, 2024 we woke up to beautiful weather. In contrast to our friends on the other side of the Alps, we saw the sun and enjoyed pleasant temperatures of around 25° C. The perfect day to go for a drive in our convertible.

After shopping in Neive (salami, mortadella, parmesan, goat and sheep cheese and two bottles of Moretti beer) and having breakfast we set off. With the help of a detailed road map we can determine the route we want to drive in advance. Our choice fell on the Strada Romantica, which more than deserves its name. It leads over little-used and narrow roads through the most beautiful areas in the Langhe, a northern Italian landscape in Piedmont.

First, we went along vineyards and wineries where the delicious Piedmontese wines are made. The road then rose to 750 meters above sea level and the vines were replaced by hazelnut bushes. We passed small and tiny villages. We stopped in Montezemolo to have a glass of Arneis. We were amazed when we were greeted with a friendly «Grüezi». The solution to the puzzle: The owner of the Ristorante al Cervo worked as a pizzaiolo in Bülach for 42 years – the world is small!

PS: Wherever we went and wherever we stopped in our convertible, we always heard the same thing: «Che bella macchina – una Mercedes. Complimenti!»
