AT THE CAPE OF GOOD HOPE

We made it again!

No, no, Brigitta is not pregnant; but that’s what the cape at the southwestern most point of Africa is called! The last time we were here was in 2009; So, it was high time we visited it again. We did that on November 15th, 2023, on a beautiful morning.

The cape is an attraction for tourists from all over the world. When we got there, we met two large tour buses and a few cars. It took the tour group from South Korea a quarter of an hour until everyone had taken a selfie. After a few South Africans who could barely hide their bellies behind the big board, it was our turn. It was Orapa’s first visit to the Cape and the kitten was correspondingly nervous when we picked her up. Much to the delight of the other tourists, who couldn’t get enough of her. (Yeah, she’s so sweet, we heard again and again.)

The route there was almost more beautiful than the Cape. The most diverse Floral Kingdom in the world is located here, with 1,100 endemic plants. What caught our eyes most, were the proteas blooming in all colors. And the white flower islands; a type of thistle. From a distance it looked as if it were remnants of snow like you see in the Alps in spring. Just wonderful. The splendor of the flowers alone was worth making the detour to the Cape! Not to forget the drive over Chapmans Peak, which is probably one of the most beautiful routes in the world!
