Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean after Sicily. The Egyptians called them Schardana, the Euboians “Ichnoussa” – that’s what beer is called today in Sardinia – and the Greeks Sandalyon, as their shape is reminiscent of a footprint. The island forms with some offshore islands the autonomous region of Italy of the same name. The region of Sardinia has an area of 24,090 km² and 1.6 million inhabitants (2015). Their capital is Cagliari. (Source: Wikipedia)
