VISITING ADDO NATIONAL PARK

Face to face with the gentle giants!

We visited this park, which is best known for its elephant population, for the first time when we shipped our vehicle from Australia to South Africa during a long trip (1994-1996). We picked it up again in Cape Town and then traveled through southern Africa for seven months before returning home.

At 10 am. we stood in front of the entrance gate and showed our Namibia ID. The park attendants always look puzzled when they see the Swiss license plate and then our Namibian ID cards. This always gives us reason to talk about our travels. When the rangers then take another look at the flags on the broadside of Mahangu, the ice has been broken and the barriers are coming up…

For the next five hours we drove all over the park. And what we saw confirmed that this park, which is still being expanded, provides a beautiful home for the elephants. But not just them, but also the zebras and other antelopes that we saw today…
