VISITING NAMAQUALAND NATIONAL PARC

Flower-Wonderland

The next morning, we got up to beautiful weather. However, we had breakfast in Mahangu’s galley because there was a cold easterly wind blowing. So cold that we not only wore a T-shirt and a sweater but also a down gilet. This is how it could be endured outside. (However, we did not turn on the auxiliary heater like we did the day before.)

At 9:30 am. we made our way to Skilpad Gate, where we were already known from the day before. We paid the entrance fee for a day visit and then set off on the journey. This would take us on the Caracal Path through the park and to the coast. We were barely on the move when we couldn’t stop being amazed by loud expressions of joy. What a splendour!

Even though we were already used to a lot from our visit to the Goegap Nature Reserve the day before, we were again blown away by the splendour of the flowers. We now realize that we’ve got the timing right for this Wildflower Season. Flowers in front of us, flowers next to us and flowers behind us. Everywhere you looked there were flowers or blooming succulents. Brigitta repeatedly got out of the vehicle to take pictures. One of them can be seen here!

At lunchtime we took a detour to the coast, to Hondeklip Bay. Brigitta had read in iOverlander that there was Dop & Kreef, a good fish restaurant, here. The seafood combo that was served to us confirmed the restaurant’s excellent reputation. We toasted this beautiful day with a glass of Chenin Blanc!
