SUP: Not as easy as it looks!
Kandersteg is surrounded by mountains; but two beautiful lakes are only half an hour’s drive away. For once we are not talking about lake Oeschinen or Blausee but rather about Lake Thun and Brienz. Faulensee, a pretty, small town located on Lake Thun, was our destination on July 26th, 2024. The weather was as it should be in summer: we drove to the lake in the convertible with the top down.
The destination was the tourism office in Faulensee, which is located directly on the lake. But today it wasn’t about swimming but rather a premiere: Brigitta had been talking about trying a SUP (stand-up-paddling) lesson for a long time. And this beautiful day and the location offered the perfect environment. (It’s a shame that, unlike Brigitta, I didn’t have a shorty with me – when the water temperature is 19° C, you don’t like falling into the water too often!)
Elia, the sympatic lifeguard, gave Brigitta the most important instructions. And then she knelt on the board and paddled out. Then she stood up, or tried to, and fell into the water. I watched as she scrambled onto the board again. A second try and she was up and standing! For the next hour she paddled around the bay and I watched with a bit of envy. Elia just said: «Brigitta is a natural talent when it comes to SUP.» It is true!
