Another pic for Instagram!
On June 18, 2024 we finally managed to pay a visit to the Blausee (blue lake), which is eight kilometers away from our home in Kandersteg. It was high time, because the first visit to this beautiful lake in our neighborhood was a few decades ago.
The Blausee is an attraction in the Bernese Oberland – as is the Öschinensee. In both places you can experience what is meant by overtourism. That was also the reason why we had until now little desire to visit this lake. Every time we drove by, all the parking spaces were occupied. It’s worst on weekends – that’s when it’s high season and it’s best to leave the lake to the tourists.
We were all the more surprised when we came across an (almost) empty parking lot two days ago. And that even though the sky – exceptionally for this summer – was bright blue. A short time later we saw why this lake is a tourist magnet in a class of its own. The deep blue and crystal-clear lake, in which rainbow and other trout swim, is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Switzerland. No wonder tourists from all over the world flock here. Not so that day; and we are grateful for that!
