We are currently experiencing the second spring in Kandersteg, where we live since 2022, when we are in Switzerland for six months. However, what we experienced in May 2024 hardly deserved to be called «Wonnemonat» (Blissfull month) in Switzerland. This is what we associate with sunshine and warm temperatures. Both were in short supply in May 2024 in Kandersteg, 1,200 m above sea level, we even had snowfall again. And when it didn’t snow, it rained nonstop for days.

We haven’t seen any swallows, which usually hunt for insects. They were careful not to fly to a region where there was no food for their young. Tits, finches and sparrows thank us for not clearing the bird house yet. (I only did this on June 6th, 2024 and after a gentle hint from the Sempach bird observatory!)

However, once the sun shines, you suddenly see tourists with their backpacks on their way to Lake Öschinen. And the restaurants put umbrellas and tables on the terrace. It seems that summer is coming after all – albeit a little late.
