COW BELLS INSTEAD OF BATTLES AND CHAOS

Action pur!

I was a fan of football for many years and also a fan of FC Basel, which at that time still played internationally and not locally. But since football has been taken over by chaotic people, I’ve grown tired of this sport. It’s just not fun to read and hear about riots, pyrotechnic battles and chaotic marches every weekend. There are other sports that don’t have this problem. For example, rugby, which is more important than football in southern Africa. And we live there for half a year at a time. Rugby is also played by men and not by tattooed, overpaid and grossly overrated youngsters.

On April 28, 2024 we didn’t go to a football match but to the Kandertal cow fight, which took place in Frutigen. What a spectacle as the cattle were led into the arena. They performed jumps with all fours in the air and chased each other around the arena for the first few minutes until they had calmed down. Then so-called «Rabatteure» came into action and, on the instructions of the jury, two cattle were brought together so that they would feel like fighting against each other to determine the hierarchy in the herd.

We stayed for four hours and enjoyed the peaceful togetherness. No pyro attacks from aggressive teenagers. No chaotic parades, no fights! It was just peaceful, fun and beautiful! And something else that is particularly pleasing for families: entry was free. A glass of white wine cost CHF 3; a bratwurst with bread CHF 7.–!
