BACK TO THE MOUNTAINS, BACK TO WINTER

Home - white - Home!

After three relaxing days on Lake Constance, it was time to say goodbye. After a hearty breakfast, a quick visit to the sauna and a final dip in the ice pool, then it was time to pack. We left Radolfzell at 11 am and headed home.

For once we didn’t have a traffic jam on the highway. Via Bern and Thun, we reached Spiez, on Lake Thun. The snow-covered Niesen greeted us from a distance, and shortly afterwards we turned off into the Kandertal. To the left and right, the meadows that were still green when we left and where cows grazed were white and covered with snow now.

And then it started snowing. Large, heavy snowflakes fell from a gray sky. To the delight of the tourists who drove in front of us in a rented VW bus. The children stretched their arms out the window to feel what the snow felt like. (We experienced how difficult it is to explain this to someone who has never seen snow in Namibia.)

Kandersteg, which we reached a short time later, looked like it does during winter. Everything was white and there was smoke coming from the chimneys – a sure sign that there was heating going on. We did the same thing in the evening when we lit a fire in the oven and enjoyed a fondue. (A good Fendant from Valais and a sip of kirsch helped with digestion!)
