
Catching up with winter!
We knew that winter in Switzerland had not yet completely passed in March. Especially not in the Bernese Oberland, where we currently live. Up here, in Kandersteg, at 1,200 meters above sea level, it is still cool enough to eat a fondue and enjoy the warmth of the oven in the evening with a crackling fire.
When we woke up on March 24, 2024, it was a Sunday morning, nature was wearing white. It had snowed during the night and it was still snowing. Nice to see snowflakes falling from a gray skysky again! The decision to go for a morning walk was quickly made.
We put on warm clothes, laced up our hiking boots and set off. But not before we put on warm hats, because there was a cold wind. I put on the special hat that Brigitta sewed for me on August 28, 2019, from leftover bison fur at the Caribou campsite in Whitehorse, in Canada. Equipped like this, we set off on the snowy path along the river Kander to the train station kiosk where we bought a newspaper. The saleswoman admired my bison hat and said that I looked like a «trapper»…
