On the way back home: No vehicle in sight far and wide!
We actually wanted to spend another day at the reservoir, but when the sky was gray the next morning and it started to drizzle, we decided to drive north. It ended up being a longer day of driving, but that wasn’t a problem for us. Now the journey back home to Swakopmund had begun; we were both aware of that.
When we arrived in Springbok in the evening, the trip odometer showed the number 445! Not bad when you consider that we rode a large part of it on gravel and sand tracks. At the Springbok Hotel we found a rather run-down campsite; but that didn’t bother us for an overnight stay. What bothered us more was the noise that a group of drunk guests made on the porch until four in the morning. (Without ear plugs we would have slept even worse that night!)
A cool shower and an espresso awakened our spirits. After a short drive, we reached customs and crossed the border between South Africa and Namibia at Vioolsdrift on November 18th, 2023. We now had just over 800 kilometers to Windhoek ahead of us. But there was something special to see along the way! (If you want to know what, read the following posts.)
