A PIG, A DOG AND FOUR CATS…

My name is Peanut!

For once we are not talking about elephants, rhinos, hippos and lions but rather about domestic animals. And it happened like this: There is the Mokolodi Backpacker near Gabarone, the capital of Botswana. The expression put us off at first because we don’t have much to do with backpackers. But when we read the recommendations in iOverlander, we said we should rather check out this place. Luckily, we did…

We were first greeted by a dog who sniffed us in a attentive manner. Then we met the four house cats who looked at our kitten, Orapa, in a friendly manner. But the best came last: It was a black pig that weighed around 150 kilograms and was appropriately named Peanut. It immediately lay down on Mahangu’s side and grunted happily as we set up camp under a tree at the edge of the swimming pool.

Rarely have we felt at home so quickly. Hendrik, the owner from South Africa, has created a little paradise here. We didn’t want to leave that too quickly and so we booked in for two nights. The fact that we were the only guests made the stay even better…
