Power for People!
On September 8th, 2023, the Licht und Wasserwerk (LWK) in Kandersteg held a visitor day. The occasion was the commissioning of the new Zilfuri hydroelectric power plant below Lake Oeschinen. The ambitious 8.7 million project – a once-in-a-century building for this community – lasted over a year. During the entire construction period, the residents did not have to go without electricity or good water. (You don’t drink such clean and lime-free water in many places in Switzerland!)
During the construction phase, the head office, built in 1903, was completely demolished and replaced by a new building. The new turbine generates 20% more power. This means that a large part of Kandersteg can be supplied with renewable energy – if that’s not good news! (If we hadn’t already bought two shares, we would be doing so now!)
