IN THE BEAUTIFUL BERNESE OBERLAND

What a view!

On Thursday, March 16, 2023, we drove to Kandersteg via Lucerne and Interlaken. It was a very special moment when the snow-capped peaks of the Bernese Alps appeared in front of us. It had been over eight months since we last saw mountains and snow. We had the most beautiful weather when we drove through the Kandertal to Kandersteg, which is at 1,200 meters. A steel-blue sky arched above us – we could not have wished for a nicer reception in our homeland!

In the afternoon I walked along the rushing Kander to the village. At the dairy I bought something that we miss in Namibia: Swiss cheese! In the evening we treated ourselves to a typical Swiss dish: Potatoes with cheese and butter. What a treat! Nothing against the butter from South Africa that we can buy in Swakopmund. It doesn’t taste bad at all. But not nearly as good as the one from the Kandersteg cheese dairy.

PS. In Swakopmund we have a look at palm trees from the bedroom. Here, in Kandersteg, we marvel at the 3,661-meter high Blüemlisalp from the kitchen window.
