Ready for take off!
On March 13th, 2023 we got up early. The shuttle bus that was supposed to take us to Windhoek arrived in Rossmund at 7:10 am. Since we were the last to get on board, we were also the ones to take a seat. We had the least comfortable ones; four of us on a bench whose upholstery had seen better days – just like the shock absorbers of the vehicle…
Three hours later we reached Windhoek where we spent a night. The next morning we were taken to the airport. On the tarmac was a Boeing 787 from Qatar Airways, which was supposed to carry us to Doha. 8 ½ hours later we landed in Qatar. The onward flight to Zurich took off eight hours later. So, we had enough time to enjoy the lounge, where there was enough to eat and drink but not enough sleeping facilities. So, we sat lying down in the chairs and waited until we were called to the gate at 2 am.
Five hours later we landed in Zurich, where the temperature was twenty-five degrees below that in Doha. Good thing we had packed a thick jacket and gloves. Welcome to Switzerland!
PS. Because we got on the wrong train, we didn’t end up in Wil, where we wanted to pick up our rental vehicle, but in St. Gallen! Luckily there are more trains in Switzerland than in Namibia, otherwise we would probably still be in St. Gallen…
