WHERE LIONS, CHEETAHS AND LEOPARDS ROAM

Beware of Oncoming Traffic!

The Okonjima Nature Reserve with the associated lodge, which is affiliated with the AfriCat foundation, is situated just 150 kilometers from Mt. Etjo and covers an area of 200 km2. That was our next destination, which we headed for on March 12th, 2021, after a hearty breakfast at the lodge, where we watched impalas grazing from the terrace.

After almost a hundred kilometers over narrow pads past farms where cattle and sheep are kept, we reached the B1, which led us in the direction of Otjiwarongo. Almost forty kilometers before we turned onto a private pad that brought us to the lodge. On the way there, kudus, springboks and zebras crossed our path. Only lions, cheetahs and leopards have not yet been seen. But that could still come if we stay here two nights …

PS. We then did not meet african big cats that are fed here. (That’s not our thing, because you can also see it in a ZOO!) But we met a rhinoceros that blocked our way as we drove to the Waterberg.
