Ein wunderschöner Wüsten-Garten
The Okondeka campsite in the Erongo Mountains, where we spent two days and experienced pure solitude and unforgettable starry nights, is located on the 13,000 hectare site of the Ombu Guest and Hunting Farm. Some farms in Namibia have specialized in hunters as guests who shoot their trophies here. Neither of us can do much with stuffed eland or kudu heads. But each his own!
Yesterday morning we stopped at the farm to have a coffee and gossip with Karen and Walter. We learned a lot about hunters, hunting and trophies. And as always, when you know more about a theme, it is no longer so easy to make blanket judgments. Hunting is a sport like any other. The owners of the hunting farms ensure that everything goes on correctly and that the right animals are shot; So, for example, not pregnant giraffes, springboks or kudu.
PS. Hunting farms create jobs for trackers, drivers, hunting attendants and taxidermists who take care of stuffing the trophy. The meat is processed and sold on the farm. (By the way, smoked zebra meat tastes delicious!)
