Olympic Dimensions!
After seven days, we left Etosha National Park on December 11, 2020 through the Lindequist Gate. We will come back after the rainy season. Then when everything is green and the young animals are born.
Tsumeb, around 150 kilometers away, was our destination for the day. The closer we got to the city, the greener the landscape became. We passed by Lake Otjikoto. This lake, and the nearby Lake Guinas, are the only ones in Namibia that are always filled with water. Lake Otjikoto also provides the water for Tsumeb; swimming in it is forbidden. In Tsumeb we stocked up our supply of vitamins as well as that of wine and beer! The city has 20,000 inhabitants and – not least because there is enough water – looks green. Jacaranda trees and bougainvillea are nice splashes of color – a welcome change from the dry Etosha National Park!
PS. Jörg Lindemeier, a Namibian swimmer with German roots, took part in the 2000 Olympics. It is thanks to him that a swimming pool with Olympic dimensions was built in Tsumeb. We swim in it every morning – together with a couple of ducks …
